Bures Community Hall 1959

to replace the ageing
Victory Hall

During May 1959, numerous local builders were invited to Tender for the construction of a New "Community Hall"

Unfortunately, some of these document I have published over the years have deteriorated, making it difficult to read

It was initially thought ( see previous page) the new Community Hall would cost over £10,000 plus an additional cost for the furniture and fittings.

However, these documents prove it was constructed for far less.

Pudney`s of Colne Engaine, were given the opportunity to Tender
within a target figure of£7500

The Specification for the New Community Hall

Pudney`s agree to Tender.

Pudneys contracted the roof work to a Company in London

Pudney`s breakdown of costs
Total £9020 18s 10p

Pudneys proposed estimate for the work
£8919.0s 0d

But this was approximately £10 less than their calculated £9020 18s 10p
I am assuming they were trying to keep it below the £9000 figure.

Deaves Builders of Colchester Rd, Bures wins the Contract
quoting £8650
Pudney`s would have been £269 in excess of this successful bid.
