Davids Employment Record

David attended Bures Primary School until he was 15years

He then took up an Apprenticeship with Colchester Tractors at the Hythe, Colchester.
Rain wind and snow David cycled this journey every day which was a 24 mile round trip

In those days Chambers operated buses with an open platform.
David would often grab hold of the bar and slipstream his way to work or back home.
Presumably when the bus stopped to collect/drop-off passengers, David just waited

Typical Platform Bus

After a few years David decided to look for work nearer to home
So he decided to join Deaves, Builders in Bures Hamlet.
After WW2 had ended, Deaves employed 23 men.
He continued there for many years until Deaves finally closed down
sometime during the 1960`s.

His next move was to Dye and Silk Works in Nayland Rd.
This must have been after 1967 when it reopened after a catastrophic fire.
His stay didn't last long, as he thoroughly disliked working indoors.

With his love of the outside, a group of local craftsmen
decided to set-up their own business as bricklayers
.
Paul Weavers, Ron Aldous, Terry Austin, Jimmey Pearl and David.

Their work took them to Stowmarket, Halstead, Needham Market
as well as our local villages.

When this work dried up David finished his working career at
CAV-Delphi Automotive Engineers, Sudbury.

David left a wonderful legacy of his brick laying days, such as various
local houses, garden walls etc.

His main skill was "Decorative Brickwork"
which was unique to the customers requirements.

There are too many places to list, but here are two examples:-

Little Cornard Village Hall, but the Exterior has been rendored since
David layed the brickwork
